Amicalement,
X

Thx for your explanations.
Phil D:
Thanks Jim for your detailed response.
One important point, I think, is that the scenario was created with a tournament in mind - so getting a balanced result was, somehow, more important than having an accurate representation of the situation as it happened.
(Now of course every French player here has seen the recent De Gaulle movies, where Leclerc's soldiers are clearly given an ELR 5, so it's hard to see them depicted any differently in a scenario!)

You need a presentation that also allows both sides to have some hope of winning but is as accurate and faithful to the history as possible. In real life, the French stopped the Germans from reaching Dompaire allowing those units there to be wiped out. So how do you design something that allows the Germans some chance of an ahistorical result? How do you come up with Victory Conditions reflecting the objectives of the historical units? Perhaps most of all, how do you make it fun for both sides?
I want to make scenarios that people play and enjoy. That means fun, interesting, challenging, winnable. Those are my primary objective and the history has to fit inside of those or the scenario probably won't see light of day. There were 5 other scenarios Gary and I playtested for this pack. Three of those just weren't fun so we didn't include them in the pack.
