The Hunters become the Hunted FR9 (1.2)
By Jérôme Rey and Michel Bongiovanni.
FR9 was playstested by 2 experienced players.
Italian (Michel) decisive Victory
Playing Time 2H45
Unfortunately Gods of War (aka the DR) interfered so much in our playing that we can?t conclude on the balance of this scenario.
The German Player conceded at the end of it?s Turn 4. He had at this time lost more than 13 CVP to the Italian without killing many italians and without any hope of getting to the Castle.
Luck betrayed the German and as early than in the first DR.
For instance the first significant italian defensive Fire was a leader Direct MMG at long range on a running stack, which with snake eyes caused a 2 KIA ! OK the German should?nt have run in such a place, but the 2 DFF DR was not forecast.
Generally the Italians fired very well (even achieving a few FPF without breaking themselves despite 6 Morale Units), without activing many german sniper activations (only one). The German made bad MC DR. He never get into positions that would have allowed him to make efficent kill stacks.
So we really can?t tell much about balance. We could?nt test the Truce SSR which certainly can play a huge part.
Jérôme nevertheless figures the German will have a hard time to win, but it?s just a feeling (based on the quite impressive italian OB and the distance from the entry board edges to the Castle).
Comments on VC :
The VC are a little bit intricated, and it is unusual (and confusing perhaps) to need a VP margin to win a scenario. The German players would be well inspired to reread them in the course of the playing.
VC read : ?The Germans receive double VP for any prisonner exited off the north edge of the map? So we figure Germans can exit off the north edge without counting as CVP for the Italians. Worth precising in the VC.
Do the Germans earn CVP (or only VP for prisonners and control of the Castle ?). Doubt is permitted reading the VC.
Can the Italian earn the 5 VP if they only have unarmed units in the Castle ? We think yes but that could be confirmed in parenthesis.
The SSR seem quite clear.
Fun Factor :
Jerôme :
Our playing wasn?t very fun indeed (at least for me as the German !), due to the tremendous lack of german luck we experienced. Despite this I would rate the scenario a 6 on a fun scale of 10. Not so bad.
A 7 would mean a very good scenario but I?m reluctant to give this mark at this point. Because :
First I figure, perhaps erronously, that the Germans can have a very difficult time to wrest the Castle from italian control (Big Guns, Wires, Stone Buildings, Pillboxes, Possible skulk positions in the Castle) and italian reinforcements coming. Balance is an important factor of fun for me.
Second I dread there is a potential for a real mess at the end of the game, with huge stacks on Orsini Castle (prisonners, multi locations building hexes, ennemies from everywhere ?). And that?s not very good for my clumsy large fingers, though I know some strange guys playing with surgeon pincers.
I will play the final version anyway, would it be only to exorcise the indian sign I had to endure in this playtest.
